Niagra Falls from the Canadian Side

The view of the falls from Canada was no less impressive that it had been from across the border. The main improvement was that from a distance you can get a real perspective of how far the falls span from the American Falls to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. You can see how the Horseshoe Falls get their name from this side.  Also the surroundings on the Canadian side are very nice, the pathways and gardens are all complete. They are still working on the landscaping over on the USA side. If you didn’t want to walk too much or you were limited on time you then just come to the Canadian side. If you had a bus or car drop you at one end of the falls without too much of a walk you could see it all. But if you have the time to spare see both sides, you won’t be disappointed.

The volume of water that flows over the edge is incredible. Every minute 154 million litres (34 million gallons) of water flow over the edge. The flow of water has been controlled by industry and hydroelectric power. By the slowing the flow of water the amount of erosion has decreased to approximately 30 centimetres (1 foot) every 10 years.

While a number of dare devils have intentionally made the trip over the falls in a barrel, there has been only person to unintentionally go over the falls and survive. 7 year old Roger Woodward was swept over the falls on 9th July 1960 after a boating accident wearing only a life jacket. The crew of the Maid of the Mist II rescued him, pulling him unharmed from the water.
